Describe a time you solved a work problem with an idea borrowed from somewhere else entirely — a different field, industry, or discipline. How did you make it fit?

Connecting across domains is a different creative move from inventing in place, and it can't be faked without a real second domain to point at. The fit clause tests translation: borrowed ideas rarely transplant cleanly, and the adaptation work is where the actual thinking shows.

A genuine second domain described with some fluency, a named mismatch they had to adapt around rather than a clean lift, a translation colleagues could understand and act on, and signs the borrowing is a habit rather than a one-off.

The "other field" is a thin analogy assembled for the interview, the idea transplanted with suspicious perfection, they can't explain how it worked in its original home, or the connection gets name-dropped with no adaptation work behind it.
